18th-century château with 2 gîtes, barn and 8 ha in the Basque Pyrenees
18th-century château at the gateway to the Basque Pyrenees
Magnificent château built in the 18th century for the noble Ahetzia family on the site of an ancient family fief documented in the region since the Middle Ages, remaining in the same lineage until the late 19th century. The Renaissance architecture is distinguished by its fine symmetry, flanked by a cylindrical turret and two pavilions on the west façade. The stone cross-mullioned dormer windows and triangular pediments, the mullioned windows on the ground floor with their interior shutters, and the sculpted stone plaque above the entrance – bearing family coat of arms, Basque inscriptions and hunting scenes – testify to the rich history of this residence.
5 bedrooms · 4 bathrooms · 600 m² of living space · 7.94 ha ·
Location and access
The estate sits at the foot of the Basque Pyrenees, just one kilometre from its peaceful village. Every window offers serene views across pastoral countryside. The region, rich in culture and natural beauty, lends itself to countless outdoor activities.
Interior
The property is in very good overall condition, benefiting from central heating and double glazing. The roof of the west façade has been recently renovated. Four of the five bedrooms spread over two floors have ensuite bathrooms; the fifth has a washbasin. A 100 m² attic on the second floor, with turret, offers potential for conversion into additional bedrooms.
Exterior
A gate in the stone walls opens onto the east elevation and private enclosed gardens of approximately half a hectare. The remaining 7.5 hectares comprise orchard and meadow to the south of the château. To the north, separated by a stone wall and an attractive wrought-iron gate, lie extensive outbuildings, part of which has been converted into 2 independent gîtes, together with 3 horse boxes.
